A quiet walk at Draycote Water

Coot

A very pleasant, sunny, but seasonally fresh morning had me taking a gentle potter along Farborough Bank to Toft Shallows and back. My hope for some Spring migrants was soon dashed and it was the common species that had pride of place! Once again, hordes of fishermen festooned the banks and a number of boats set to flight the groups of duck. I'm sure that two of the boat fishermen "fancied" me, because every time I stopped on Farborough Bank, they were in front of me! Toft shallows held one of the Water Rails (my first at Draycote!) and while trying to gain some images, a phone call from Bob H alerted me to a possible Siberian Chifchaff at the end of Farborough Bank. Unfortunately, by the time I made the two hundred yard dash, two fishermen had walked down to the bush where Bob had located it, and of course, it was not seen or heard again. The drake Smew was eventually located off Draycote Bank after hard scope searching!
