Bempton Cliffs, "All Creatures Great and Small"! - 16th June 2019

Grey Seal

A very pleasant day on the cliffs with sunny intervals and blue sky with some light rain arriving late afternoon. We certainly need some good weather especially now as many chicks are appearing on the ledges. We are now seeing Gannet, Herring Gull, Guillemot, Razorbill and Kittiwake chicks with occasional views of the Puffling in the nest near Grandstand viewpoint. Today was another very busy day with large numbers of visitors eager to enjoy the seabird spectacle. My popularity must be in decline as no one had booked on the wildlife walk, enabling me to wow visitors on the viewpoints!!!

All of the expected species were seen in good numbers.

Todays Sightings

I'll start today with some images of the "happy families" now being seen on the ledges

Gannet

Razorbill

Guillemot

Some sad news, the Herring Gull family nesting near Bartlett Nab have lost two of their three chicks, probably due to the recent very wet and cold weather. We hope the surviving chick flourishes.

The clifftops are full of Painted Lady Butterflies

This Grey Seal showed well in the clear water

And Dragonflies like this Broad Bodied Chaser are starting to appear

But were there any Puffins, I hear the cry? Well yes, but most were seen in flight or on the sea. Some did, however, pose on the cliffs!

In the spotlight!

Shout it from the cliff tops!

Guillemots

With Razorbills

Shout it from the cliff tops!

Razorbill

Year 2 / 3 Gannet

Tricky birds to photograph - Linnet

Jackdaw with breakfast

Carrion Crow

What will you discover? Keep 'em peeled!
