Mute Swan on a mission! Filey Dams.
I decided to have a mooch around Filey this morning, hoping to touch base with a few spring migrants. I'm beginning to think I should move into "Specsavers"! I arrived at the country park in order to walk Carr Naze and overlook the Brigg and Filey Bay (early enough to avoid paying for parking!). Skylarks and Meadow Pipits were quite numerous but little else. Scanning the bay produced three Common Scoters but little else. A Bar Tailed Godwit had been reported for several days, associating with Oystercatchers, but where was it? It certainly wasn't in the upper country Park. Passing the lower part, I noticed a few birds on the flooded fields, opposite the café. There were certainly Oystercatchers and a couple of Redshanks, then I spotted the Bar Tailed, distant, but a year tick! While watching, I was serenaded by two Chiffchaffs in the gulley leading down to the sailing club and another year tick.

Stopping at Long Lane for a reported Firecrest, I was told it was showing well but had flown and was not relocated.
Leaving the country park I headed to Filey Dams. Here, water levels are high following the recent heavy rain. Just the expected species with another Chiffchaff calling. It is good to see the results of the recent improvements and the hard work of the volunteer team.

Gulls, yes - Black Headed, Common, Herring
I'm sure I will touch base with migrants soon!
