Purple Sandpiper

Saturday is Bridlington market day and despite the windy conditions we had our greetings card stall set up. With some time out for good behaviour, I ventured onto the harbour as the high tide was beginning to turn. I was pleased to see good numbers of Purple Sandpiper, Redshank and Turnstone sheltering on the ledges below the Spa Centre. The Redshank and Turnstone were rather sedate, but the Purple Sandpipers (c30+) were very active, dodging the breaking waves, flying onto the ledges just before a soaking! Some misjudged and were swept out with the wave, only to appear toe shake themselves down and fly back to the ledges! Simple entertainment and a pleasure to watch.

While walking the dog on North Beach, Bridlington, it was a pleasure to be distracted by two of my favourite wading birds, the Sanderling.

I managed to sneak away from our market stall on Bridlington Market on the pretext of walking our dog, Symphony! There is always something to see, but the best has to be the small roost (26+) of Purple Sandpipers! The tide was rising so an ideal time to watch them. Beautiful birds. Also on the "bill" were Redshank and Dunlin again in small numbers.
