Bridlington

Purple Sandpiper

After a short "break", I'm back out with the camera, and for those who do not know, living in the village of Bempton, East Riding of Yorkshire. The problem with moving to this area is the total lack of birding sites!!! (I jest!). At the moment, we are "feeling our feet" and exploring the area in order to find the areas missed on our holiday ventures. Free parking areas are also top of our "must find" list! We set off in mild, calm and blue sky conditions along the north beach in Bridlington in order to give our dog Symphony a good walk. Along the way, large numbers of Sanderling graced the waters edge, and remain one of my favourite birds.

Large amounts of lobster and crab remains enticed the corvids


Heading for the harbour we found dozens of Redshank on the harbour walls

Then, the best birds of the day - Purple Sandpipers! My first of this year and the most I have ever seen, together in one place! There must have been c20 birds feeding below the harbour wall. The onle way I could get images was looking down on them (high tide), not ideal but hey-ho!

    Hi

    You might want to try Speeton during migration times, especially Autumn. Not sure if anything has changed but we did Filey North Cliffe Country Park regularly during September for a few years which at the time was fairly well watched. We checked out Speeton to find it also really looked good for migrants, plenty of cover too, with "at the time" no over birders!!!

    Hi Kevin,

    Well if you have to move, what a place to move too!
    Hope you quickly settle in and find more and more birding sites. I occasionally do a trip to RSPB Bempton Cliffs so know a little of the area you will be birding in. Looking forward to more blogs in due course.
