Lunch Time Delicacy!

Great Crested Grebe with lunch!

A quick late morning visit to Napton Reservoir had me squelching around in thick mud, attempting to find something interesting to photograph. I was not to be disappointed with a Great Crested Grebe spending a good ten minutes devouring its lunch! Very little in the variety of birds on the water, but I managed to see my first Kingfisher of the year. A solitary Common Snipe was spotted on the edge of the reeds and two Mistle Thrushes were active in an adjacent field. The water levels at Napton are very high, the reeds and hedges have been cut back and the paths definitely need wellies!

  1. Great selection Kevin.
That's quite a fish the Grebe has got.

  2. Cheers Keith. It was huge and it was interesting to see the Grebes efforts to devour it - a good 15minutes effort!
