Holme Dunes and Redwell Marsh 12th September 2010

I arrived at Redwell Marsh early afternoon, my aim being to see the juvenile Red Necked Phalarope which has been around for several days. This was to make up for the annoyance of work preventing me seeing a local bird at Draycote Water prior to my trip into Norfolk! I was not disappointed even though the Phalarope stayed distant. Also on Redwell Marsh were three Green Sandpipers and a Ruff.

Leaving Redwell, I headed for Holme Dunes where an Arctic Warbler and Barred Warbler were reported. However, despite searching for over four hours, neither bird showed. Slight compensation was provided by excellent views of several Spotted and Pied Flycatchers, Lesser Whitethroat, Goldcrest and Coal Tit. The Arctic Warbler would have to be searched for again! A familiar face in the crowd was that of local Warwickshire birder Terry B - unfortunately my greeting was acknowledged by the now familiar "begrudging grunt". Come on Terry, we used to have good dialogue at Brandon and Draycote!
