Brandon Marsh

I hate birding at weekends - it is always so busy! This morning I decided to visit Brandon early, arriving at 0600 in the hope of something special being present. As per usual, only the expected birds were on display. East Marsh Pool produced one Redshank with a Snipe in front of the hide and fleeting glimpses of a Water Rail.Teal Pool held a single Green Sandpiper. When I arrived at Carlton Hide, seeing Lesser Whitethroat, it was FULL of photographers all clicking away at two obliging Kingfisher's. I did not stop long and headed for West Marsh and Steetly Hide where I had the hide and a Kingfisher all to myself. Walking back through Old Hare Covert, I was treated to family groups of Nuthatch, Treecreeper and Goldcrest before the peace was shattered with the arrival of two noisy Jays. I decided to walk towards the farm pool area and was treated to a Comma Butterfly and many family groups of Common Whitethroat. (A complete list of sightings is at the end of the post).
